Outline

Outline For Optical Printer Case Study
I. Introduction
                  A. Thesis : The optical printer has been in cinema history for over ninety years for its special effects capabilities but with the rise of computers the optical printer has fallen out of big cinema and now is a tool of the experimental film makers.
                  B. The subjects that will be discussed are the mechanics and workings, the history, and the decline from use of the optical printer.
                                    1. Facts about the optical printer
                                    2. The uses of the optical printer is the reason why it was really popular for a lot of years but with new technologies it has fallen out of use.
II. Body
                  A. The mechanics and workings of the optical printer
                                    1. Why people use the optical printer
                                    2. How it works
                                    3. This is a long process that has been used for years
                  B. Because of its uses in special effects  the history and development of the optical printer has changed over the years.
                                    1. The rise and fall of the optical printer
                                    2. 1920's, 1940's, 1970's, Animation, Present
                                    3. Even with the decline of use the optical printer is still in use today.
                  C. The use of the optical printer has declined because of the rise of computer technology.
                                    1. Decline of the quality of the film with each pass of the optical printer
                                    2. The color correction needed with the optical printer
                                    3. The time it takes with the optical printer versus the computer and the additional effects that can be created in the computer
                                    4. The optical printers  new place with experimental filmmakers
III. Conclusion
                  A. The uses, history, and the decline of the optical printer has changed with the growth of the special effects in filmmaking.
                  B. The optical printer is an example on how special effects is changing and as technology has grown.
